Greenlight + USA & GDC trip

Today’s blogpost is going to be about the launch and current status of the Shadow Puppeteer Greenlight campaign, and a recap of our recent trip to the US where we attended GDC.

It’s been a little over a week since we launched our greenlight campaign, and the response has been staggering!

Shadow Puppeteer goes to America! setting outA few weeks ago we traveled to the United States of America. We were going to attend Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, but we left a week earlier to go to New York. Why? Well, we wanted to experience the city, take a little while to relax before the exhausting GDC week, and begin acclimatisation for the time difference (8 hours is a lot). We had also been invited by Brooklyn College to give a talk to the Master students of Composition.

The students are primarily studying composing for film, but many of them were very interested in game music. We were originally given an hour, but we got a great dialogue going and we were granted more time. The session ended up lasting 2,5 hours. The students were so patient and showed an incredible attention and interest for the subject. We are incredibly grateful that they invited us and made us feel so welcome.

While we were on the east coast we rented an apartment in New Jersey and took the bus every day in to New York. There we got to do a lot of the standard tourist stuff.

GDC

Last week most of the Shadow Puppeteer team went to GDC where we had our own booth in the GDC Play section, and got to feature our game at the Nordic Pavilion.

Also from the Norwegian game development were our dear friends from Moondrop and Krillbite, Rock Pocket, Rain, Snowcastle, Megapop, Dirtybit, Grimnir and Turbo Tape. We just kept seeing familiar faces everywhere! Both Catharina (@CathInShadow) and Marianne (@Vaffeldamen) tweeted a bit during GDC.

We had A LOT of people visiting, and got a lot of great feedback. We love seeing people play our game, and the reactions to the game and its mechanics.

We bought a big TV so we could show our game better, and had a lottery on the last day of the conference where the lucky winner got that. The winner was Spencer Buchanan, who tweeted excitedly afterwards. We were also visited by Jory Prum and Peter McConnell.

We hope that we can come back to GDC next year as well. It was so much fun and we met so many wonderful people.
