Valentine's geek tips

“Be my player 2”

Happy Valentine’s!

To  celebrate we have talked with game developers about what games they play together,
and how they show their affection.

Thank you so much, for very heart-warming and cute answers.

Ole Andreas and Kristina

1. What is your name and what studio do you work for?
Kristina Halvorsen, I work for Krillbite Studio.
The name is Ole Andreas Biggey and I’m the board chairman for Krillbite.

2. What is your favorite game to play with your significant other?
Kristina: Probably Borderlands.
Ole Andreas: This changes all the time, but recently me and my fiancée have picked up World of Warcraft, having fun exploring the lands of Azeroth together.

3. Why is that your favorite game to play?
Kristina: Because it is a fun game in general! I love the silly story and the crazy over-the-top characters and weapons. Sharing this with someone who enjoys it as well makes it even better.
Ole Andreas: It’s about sharing a journey together, where you quest, explore, fight, laugh and banter together in a rich and huge universe.

4. What do you feel is the best way to show someone that you care about them?
Kristina: The little things in everyday life. Things like “I can make dinner tonight” when you know your SO have a meeting to attend and will come home late and hungry, or make them cute cards with nice messages on; this can also be done on days outside of Valentine’s! Tell them you love them and what you appreciate them doing. Random back-rubs or renting that movie you know they want to watch.
Ole Andreas: Sharing a good laughter over some quality time together is a good start. Making some good food or sharing some chocolate might also be a winner!

Joeri

1. What is your name and what studio do you work for?
Joeri Veenhuizen – Dovetail Games, in relation with Eva Peijmen for 5 years. (09-01-2012).

2. What is your favorite game to play with your significant other?
Call of Duty 4

3. Why is that your favorite game to play?
Because it’s still an amazing game (my favorite CoD of all time) and the online matches are always fun! What we do is we usually play it on my computer and then switch every time we die three times. It’s just so fun because the matches are very intense, you are not safe any second as there are snipers on every corner, grenades are flying everywhere and bullets of machine guns come through the wall. So you really need to stay focused the entire match. And it’s just hilarious to see my girlfriend on the edge of her chair being completely focused on the game. She does it better than me though. I rage very quickly, start smashing my desk haha, but she always maintains her composure. And she’s a quick learner too! Every time she re-spawns, first thing she does is throw a frag grenade over a wall in the hope she kills some scrub. And she even shoots through walls when she suspects there is someone walking there! I am so proud on her!

4. What do you feel is the best way to show someone that you care about them?
It’s when you don’t want to be without that person for even a second, it’s when you just want to hold that person and look her/him in the eyes, it’s when you do everything you can to make this person happy and it’s when even after 5 years, you still feel the same feeling as when you first fell in love. I sure still do!

We both aid each other in the game using different character roles, and although we have a lot of experience in the game, we like to explore the world together as a team, in a whole new light.

4. What do you feel is the best way to show someone that you care about them?
Jio: Give them something you created- it’s more meaningful!
Craig: Listen to them and try to empathise and understand how they’re feeling.

Jess and Alex

1. What is your name and what studio do you work for?
My name is Jess and I work at Wonderstruck, an indie studio in Guildford. My fiancé Alex works at Freejam in Portsmouth!

2. What is your favorite game to play with your significant other?
We’ve played a lot of games together but my favourite was Portal 2’s co-op campaign. We really enjoyed working together to solve the puzzles, shouting instructions and suggestions to each other over voice chat, and occasionally deliberately letting each other die >:D

3. Why is that your favorite game to play?
I love playing co-op games because being competitive stresses me out. Portal 2 is a pretty approachable game with innovative puzzles and a brilliant setting, and working together to solve the puzzles is super fun and a great way to get to know someone better. There’s plenty of scope to just mess around and have fun in betwen or even during the puzzle solving, and it feels like a great achievement when you finish.

4. What do you feel is the best way to show someone that you care about them?
Personally, the best way to my heart is via my stomach! I love food, so it’s no surprise that my lovely fiancé loves to cook and to try new recipes… but I think that even for most people, food is a nice way to show someone you care – whether it’s a romantic box of chocolates, a sweet selection of handmade cookies or just a big bowl of chicken noodle soup when they’re feeling low.
